Typical HVAC financing rates in 2026

HVAC financing comes in several forms, and the rate you pay depends on which one you use. Manufacturer or dealer promotional financing — the “0% for 12 months” or “5.99% for 60 months” offers your contractor presents at signing — typically ranges from 0% to about 10% APR for well-qualified borrowers. These are the most common and usually the best deal, but the promotional rate often applies only for a set term; if you carry a balance past that window, the rate jumps. Always read the deferred-interest terms.

Personal loans from a bank or credit union typically run 7% to 15% APR depending on your credit, with fixed monthly payments and no deferred-interest trap. Home equity loans or HELOCs offer the lowest rates (often 6% to 9% in the current environment) but use your home as collateral, which adds risk. Credit cards are the most expensive option at 18% to 28% and should be a last resort for a project this size.

The calculator above lets you compare any amount, rate, and term side by side. A useful exercise: enter the contractor’s promotional offer, then compare it against a personal-loan rate from your bank to see which produces the lower total cost of payments.

When financing makes sense

If a more efficient system would lower your monthly energy bill and a financing payment is close to that savings, the upgrade can be roughly cost-neutral month to month — you pay roughly the same each month but own newer, more efficient equipment. Estimate the monthly energy difference with the cooling cost calculator and the SEER2 savings calculator to see if this applies to your situation.
